The completely redesigned, 2015 Chrysler 200 has successfully navigated the small overlap crash test of the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety. In fact, the 200 was granted the "Good" rating, the best that can be granted by the institute. This is a step up from the "acceptable" rating won by the previous generation. With the highest rating of the five IIHS elevated choices, plus a new collision warning alert system, the 2015 Chrysler 200 has now earned the Best Safety Pick + designation. In the small overlap test, the car's cabin has been well preserved, and the extent of injuries recorded by the crash test dummy shows that, in reality, the driver would not suffer any significant injuries in a similar accident. The dummy's head was well cushioned by the airbag, and remained in place during the accident.

As you can probably guess, before you get the chance to admire cars on the lot of your neighbourhood dealer, the dealer needs to assess their needs and anticipate the number of vehicles to order from the manufacturer. On Thursday, May 8, Chrysler invited it's dealers to place their initial orders of the new 2015 Chrysler 200. Surprising everyone, 10,000 of the Chrysler 200 were ordered on the first day, and over 17,000 by the second day. The first 20,000 orders will allow the Sterling Heights, Michigan, assembly plant to run at full capacity until mid-July. "The Chrysler brand is thrilled to see the level of enthusiasm customers and dealers have shown to order the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200," said Al Gardner, President and CEO — Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.

Most car manufacturers go to great lengths to hide their working prototypes for as long as possible, until they are ready for formal presentation to industry professional and future customers. Generally, the majority of research and design is safe from prying eyes, hidden in specialized units which are usually in facilities belonging to the manufacturer. Later on, once the prototype is better developed, testing phases can begin outdoors, though preferably away from the curious and their camera lenses. Sometimes, journalists are well informed and are able to sneak in a few exclusive photos of a prototype that is under development. However, in their efforts to counter this problem, manufacturers usually disguise their vehicles so that little of their work can be distinguished. For example, some prototypes are hidden under a dark covering that conceals the lines and shape of the vehicle being finalized.

Automakers go to great lengths to hide upcoming models before they are ready to present them to the world. Most development work is done indoors, and testing is done in remote locations away from prying eyes and cameras. Often when a prototype is caught on film, the vehicle is heavily disguised.
