As you can probably guess, before you get the chance to admire cars on the lot of your neighbourhood dealer, the dealer needs to assess their needs and anticipate the number of vehicles to order from the manufacturer. On Thursday, May 8, Chrysler invited it's dealers to place their initial orders of the new 2015 Chrysler 200.
Surprising everyone, 10,000 of the Chrysler 200 were ordered on the first day, and over 17,000 by the second day. The first 20,000 orders will allow the Sterling Heights, Michigan, assembly plant to run at full capacity until mid-July.
"The Chrysler brand is thrilled to see the level of enthusiasm customers and dealers have shown to order the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200," said Al Gardner, President and CEO — Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.
With a starting price of $22,495, four versions of the 2015 Chrysler 200 will be available in Canada: LX, Limited, 200S and 200C. With the first nine-speed automatic transmission in it's class, and it's dial-shaped electronic gear shifter, the new 200 promises it's fans a lot of fun driving it. It can be equipped with optional all-wheel drive, and an array of safety features normally found in much more expensive cars.
Purchasers have a choice of two engines to pick from. First, the Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 engine which produces 295 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Less expensive models will get the 2.4-litre four-cylinder TigerShark MultiAir2. Obviously less powerful, but it still delivers 184 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
The interior isn't bad either. Once again, Chrysler promises standard and optional equipment not normally found in intermediate cars. It boasts the largest cabin in it's segment, with sliding cup holders, multiple power sockets, and a single storage area that is accessible by both the driver and the passenger.
