It is increasingly odd to encounter this type of vehicle on the road these days while gasoline prices are flirting with $1.50 per litre, but Ford put a lot of energy into this big truck to make it both more economical and luxurious.

Ford recently revealed photos of the new 2015 expedition, but if you're like us, you're probably disappointed that Ford did not do much when it came to the exterior of the F-150. So little, that you might not even notice that it's a new model.

The 2015 Expedition, on sale later this year, now hides under it's hood Ford's very popular 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine. This engine, with it's direct injection and twin turbochargers, is more powerful and efficient than the 5.4-litre V8 it replaces, while at the same time being more fuel efficient. It also provides more torque at low revs.

Since the disappearance of the Excursion, the Expedition is the largest vehicle offered by Ford. It certainly seems that way when looking inside. The standard version has three rows of seating holding up to 8 occupants and 3,000 litres (108.3 cubic feet) of cargo space. As for the MAX version, there are also three rows of seating and a whopping amount of cargo space, over 3,700 litres (130.8 cubic feet) of it.

The 2015 Ford Expedition will finally enter the tech era, especially the Platinum variant. The centre console has been revised to incorporate an 8-inch touch screen to work with SYNC for MyFordTouch. The gauge cluster now includes two 4.2-inch LCD colour screens. Other technologies are also available, such as the 700 watt Pioneer audio system with ten speakers, smart key with push-button start, a back up camera, LED ambient lighting in seven different colours and Ford truck apps that will help drivers to manage towing a trailer or driving off of the beaten path more easily.

Subtle exterior changes include 22-inch wheels, a redesigned tailgate and chrome exhaust pipes. Driver assistance systems, such as blind spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert also help to bring the Ford Expedition into the modern era.
