2015 Honda Civic Type R

When #Honda affixes the "#Type R" badge on the back of one of it's cars, you can expect something extreme. On the European and Asian markets, this version of the Honda Civic has been around since 1997. The Honda Civic Type R is now close to retirement, as Honda is nearly ready to launch the fourth generation of it.

The European version of #Honda's Civic is quite different from our North American Civic. While Honda puts out a conventional sedan for American consumers, a hatchback model is offered in international markets.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Manabu Nishimae, president of Honda Motor Europe revealed the first details of the new generation of the famous Honda Civic Type R. Powered by a 2.0-litre direct injection turbocharged engine, the new #Civic Type R will benefit from about 280 horsepower. This is the first time in the Civic's history that it will receive a turbocharged engine.

Honda has confirmed it's ambition to make the Civic Type R the fastest front wheel drive car on the Nurburgring. Although there are still two years of development before it hits the market in 2015, Honda has begun track testing. "We recently spend at week performing demanding tests at the Nurburgring, we are on target and we already have a time approaching the track's lap record," said Manabu Nishimae. The current record, 8 minutes and 7.97 seconds was set in 2011 by the Renault Megane RS Trophy.

A video demonstrating the Civic Type R's performance and impressive handling at the Nurburgring with Gabriele Tarquini, Honda WTCC driver at the wheel, was unveiled at Honda's press conference.

There are rumours swirling about the 2015 Honda Civic Type R being the base for the next generation of the Honda CR-Z, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

At the same time, Honda has revealed publicly for the first time, the Civic Tourer. It was confirmed that the Civic Tourer will achieve a very low carbon emissions rating of 99g per km and fuel economy of 3.8 L/100km when equipped with it's 1.6 litre i-DTEC engine. The Civic Tourer offers plenty of space and versatility.

"For me, the power of a car is a synergy of functionality, versatility and dynamic design. As a European development team, we are passionate and proud of what we have accomplished," said Adrian Killham, Chief Project Officer for the Civic Tourer.
