Automotive Takes Top Four Spots In Interbrand Ranking

Interbrand, who ranks the top 50 "Best Global Green Brands For 2014" seems to have a special place in it's heart for automotive. In fact, 10 of their 50 greenest brands in the world come from the automotive sector, including the top four positions. This year, Ford took the lead spot, after four years of domination by Toyota. Toyota claimed second place this year, ahead of Honda and Nissan.

As demand for electric vehicles grows, manufacturers have been forced to integrate this segment and diversify supply. With new 100 percent electric models and hybrids offered each year, consumers have never had so many opportunities to save on fuel, and do their part for the environment.

Ford offers consumers two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, two conventional hybrids and a 100 percent electric vehicle. In addition, Ford has implemented several environmental committees and improved employee engagement towards sustainable development. It focuses on better use of water and energy. Ford's policies lean towards building greener, and recycling more. Ford also puts a lot of energy into the development of hydrogen fuel cells. Recyclable materials such as soy are used in materials and equipment found in all models sold in North America.

Although Toyota slipped to second place this year, it continues to be an innovator in the field of energy efficient vehicles. The company has more than two million hybrids on the road in the United States, more than any other manufacturer.

As for Honda, they are involved in a range of environmental initiatives in collaboration with local communities. The company has not hid it's efforts over the years, which contributes to it's positive perception by the public. In September, 2013, Honda was one of the companies that scored highest in the CDP Global 500 report on climate change. The report analyzed how the 500 largest companies are concerned about global warming and disseminate information about greenhouse gas emissions. More than 10,000 consumers participated in the Interbrand ranking survey.
