After having revised the Sportage, Sorento and the Cadenza sedan, Kia returned back to the basics with the Rio. The small subcompact has been with us for many years and a revitalization was needed.
We are at the fourth generation. It has not yet been revealed, but as it has become a habit for many manufacturers, Kia has decided to show us the pictures a few weeks before the official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show on 29 September.
Without revolutionizing the genre, the Rio was refined. The new LED headlights are inspired from the Cadenza and the grille is now full, thinner and connected to the headlights, like the Optima. The fog lights have been moved to the corners which accentuates the width effect. Moreover, the width of the Rio increased by 5 mm. The wheelbase is longer by 10 mm and the length increases by 15 mm. The car is also 5 mm lower.
We cannot redraw the outside without reviewing the interior. The design of the dashboard is more work than before and, according to Kia, it will be more ergonomic. The dashboard is driver-focused and offers a new infotainment system with a prominent display. It will be your passengers center of attention! The touch screen lets you control the sound system, navigation and connectivity of Rio. There are far fewer buttons on the console since these functions are now on the screen.
There are two colors available for the seats: black or gray, in fabric or in imitation leather. Kia thought offering "Red Pack" seats in red imitation leather… In order to feel like you are driving a Ferrari! Concerning the engine, nothing has been announced yet.
The Kia Rio is the best-selling model worldwide. More than 473,000 sold in 2015. In Europe, production will begin in late 2016. As for other markets, the dates will be announced later on.
