The Return Of The Chevy Colorado

After a brief exit from the small pickup truck category, Chevy is back with the Colorado, unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show last week. Decisions made for Ford and Dodge to withdraw their Ranger and Dakota have surely helped to convince General Motors to renew it's Colorado, holding the American fort against evil Japanese invaders.

Expected to arrive during the fall of 2014 as a 2015 model, the #Chevrolet Colorado is entirely new. As in the past, a variety of engines will be offered. A four-cylinder 2.5-litre engine will come standard, along with direct injection and variable valve timing. The two-wheel drive truck base can be equipped with a manual six-speed transmission while others will offer a six-speed automatic transmission.

A second engine is the 3.6-liter V6 that is found in several other GM models. Properly equipped, the Colorado can tow a load of 6,700 pounds, enough to haul your boat to your favourite lake. Finally, buyers can opt for the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel that is already available elsewhere in the world. This is a definite advantage for Chevrolet, since it is the only diesel engine available in this category.

Several body configurations are offered: an elongated 6 foot box, or a crew cab with a 5 or 6 foot cabin. The truck's tailgate can be lowered in order to carry items as long as 8 feet in length in the case of the 6 foot elongated box.

The 2015 #Chevrolet Colorado will be available in three trim levels: WT, LT and Z71, this version the more aggressive of the group. The interior design is heavily inspired by the Colorado's big brother, the Silverado. While spiced up here and there, most design elements are comparable to intermediate level cars offered by the same manufacturer.

While the 2015 #Chevrolet Colorado Z71 has nothing to rival the best equipped sedans, it does come with an 8 inch touch screen and technologies like OnStar's MyLink.

As for the GMC Canyon, some think it will be unveiled in Detroit this January. It would replace the Colorado LTZ, but GM isn't saying yet. To be continued...
